4 Things Money Conscious People Can Do To Save $35+ In Airports

1. Bring Your Own Water Bottle

Most airports charge $4+ for bottled water. A great way to save some money at the airport is to bring your own water bottle. Every airport will have a water fountain so filling the bottle is always convenient and FREE! It also eliminates the risk of you having to throw away your other paid-for water when going through security. You may have to dump the water itself out, but you do not have to throw away the bottle. Once you're through security you can refill the bottle, and again it's completely free.

Bringing your own bottle is also much better for the environment because it eliminates plastic waste. This simple tip can easily save you anywhere between $4-$16 per person.

2. Bring Your Own Snacks

There are no rules against bringing your own food on the plane, so I say, bring as much food as you think you need. Food at airports is very expensive, for just a simple salad or sandwich you could pay up to $15. Simply put, that is way too much money to spend on food, and it usually doesn't even taste good. An easy solution to this problem is to bring your own food and snacks.

I find that grab and go items are the simplest, such as granola bars, trail mix, popcorn, pretzels, and various other goodies. You can also pre-make sandwiches. My only cautionary tip is bringing fresh fruit, meat, or cheese into a foreign country. That usually does not fly, so before you leave be sure to check what the rules and laws are for the country you're traveling to.

3. Bring Your Own Medications

Pain killers are my recommended must-have for any type of flight. You never know what type of pain may pop up while your flying. You also may want to bring various medications for motion sickness or congestion, I'm sure you know your body needs the best. Any type of medication is VERY expensive at airports. Most pain relievers cost upwards of $3 per 2 tablets. To save, just be sure to bring a small variety of medications, that way for any problem that may arise you will be covered without having to break the bank.

4. Bring Something To Do

Airports can get very boring if you have nothing to entertain yourself with. I highly suggest bringing a book or magazine to help pass the time. Airports, of course, sell both of these things, but for about three times the amount of a regular store. It won't take up much space in your bag and you will be very thankful to have something to do, not only while you're waiting for your flight, but also while your flying. Keep in mind how many hours your specific trip will be and plan your entertainment accordingly.
